The Community College of Philadelphia has a program-to-program transfer agreement with Maryland Institute College of Art. To benefit from this Agreement, students must earn an Associate in Art degree in Art and Design before transfer.
Under this Agreement, Maryland Institute College of Art will accept all or most of the courses from the Associate in Art (A.A.) degree in Art and Design from Community College of Philadelphia to satisfy half of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fine Arts assuring third-year junior status.

Program Transfer Guide
Transfer guides are created and maintained to help students and staff make appropriate course and program choices. The guides show how the requirements for the appropriate Community College of Philadelphia associate degree transfer to the bachelor's institution. It is, however, possible for program requirements at Community College of Philadelphia or the transfer institution to change without advanced notice.
Admissions Criteria
Under this Agreement, Maryland Institute College of Art guarantees admissions to their Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with third-year (junior) status on the condition the student satisfies the following terms and conditions:
- Graduate from Community College of Philadelphia with an A.A. in Art and Design.
- Achieve a minimum 2.0 cumulative Community College of Philadelphia grade point average (GPA) within their associate program of study. Only courses with a grade of "C-" or higher will be eligible for transfer.
- Meet deadlines for admissions application (application fee is waived), payment of fees and other registration requirements that apply to other entering students at Maryland Institute College of Art.
- Submit a portfolio with between 8 and 12 pieces of artwork as part of the application process. Students in the A.A. in Art and Design will develop their portfolio during their ART 290 Portfolio Preparation course taught every fall semester.
- Enroll at Maryland Institute College of Art within one year of completing their A.A. in Art and Design from Community College of Philadelphia not attend another institution between graduation and attendance at Maryland Institute College of Art.
Students pursuing the A.A. in Art and Design are strongly encouraged to talk with a Maryland Institute College of Art Admissions Representative and/or a Community College of Philadelphia Program Advisor for the A.A. in Art and Design curriculum to develop a course taking strategy to maximize course transferability.
NOTE:
- Students are responsible for sending Maryland Institute College of Art official transcripts for evaluation of credit from all institutions attended. Transfer credit will be awarded for courses with a grade of "C" or above for any and all courses transferred to Maryland Institute College of Art. Credit will may be awarded for AP, CLEP, Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) etc. with appropriate documentation. Developmental courses are not eligible for transfer.
- Community College of Philadelphia students who transfer are responsible only for requirements in place at Maryland Institute College of Art as of the date of their enrollment in the A.A. in Art and Design curriculum at Community College of Philadelphia.
- The maximum number of semester hours that can transfer to Maryland Institute College of Art is 60 for matching curricula. Students enrolled in an undergraduate program of study at Maryland Institute College of Art are required to complete a maximum of 66 credits upon transfer.
- Students are advised to follow the Transfer Guide for this Agreement. Students who do not follow this may not maximize the transfer of credits.
- Students who have pursued a Community College of Philadelphia associate degree other than the A.A. in Art and Design or who do not earn the associate degree in Art and Design and who wish to transfer to Maryland Institute College of Art are not covered by this Agreement. Such students will be considered for admissions on an individual basis and their credits will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis.
Advantages
Students who participate in this Agreement are eligible for the following benefits:
- Application fee to Maryland Institute College of Art will be waived for Community College of Philadelphia graduates who apply to the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Maryland Institute College of Art with an A.A. in Art and Design.
- Maryland Institute College of Art Transfer Partnership Award for Community College of Philadelphia graduates with a 2.0 or higher GPA.
- Informational meetings with Maryland Institute College of Art representative during the Community College of Philadelphia’s ART 290 Portfolio Preparation course taught every fall semester.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
Transfer Partnership Award
Under this Agreement, Community College of Philadelphia students who earn the A.A. in Art and Design will be awarded $2,500 renewable annually.
Merit Scholarship
In addition to the Transfer Partnership Award all graduates of the A.A. in Art and Design will be awarded a Merit Scholarship based on portfolio review and will vary in amount from a minimum $5,000 to $36,000 a year.
Renewal of scholarships are predicated on students submitting their FAFSA and remaining in good academic standing at Maryland Institute College of Art.
Financial Aid
All transfer students will be provided with Maryland Institute College of Art financial aid information and receive full consideration for Maryland Institute College of Art financial aid upon matriculation at Maryland Institute College of Art just like non-transfer students with junior status.
Students who transfer under this agreement are also eligible for and have equal access to housing on the same basis as other students with junior status.
