About Leadership Institute

The Division of Strategic Initiatives seeks applications each spring for the Leadership Institute of the Community College of Philadelphia to take place during the academic year.

Purpose 

The major goal of the Institute is to develop leaders and potential leaders within the College community by fostering the ability of individuals to meet new challenges faced by the College in fulfilling its mission and values around access and success. The Leadership Institute provides participants with an understanding of the broader issues as well as specific strategies that will build leadership capacity in various areas of the College.

Benefits of Participation

The Leadership Institute will incorporate a variety of speakers, topics, and activities designed to enhance leadership ability by providing participants with the following opportunities:

  • to interact with and gain insight from leaders in various fields related to the mission of the community college
  • to increase awareness of the local, state, national and global contexts within which the College will function in the 21st century
  • to increase understanding of specific ways in which the larger environment may impact the College in the pursuit of its mission
  • to develop increased self-awareness as leaders, enhance communication skills and learn new strategies for conflict resolution
  • to heighten awareness of organizational structure and organizational culture 
  • to increase knowledge of resource allocation, budgeting and finance
  • to explore decision-making in the context of individual and institutional values
  • to become part of a collaborative network of problem-solvers
  • to work collaboratively on a project of interest to the participant and of benefit to the College community
  • to gain a deeper understanding of the college mission, vision and values 

Who is eligible 

The Leadership Institute invites applications from full-time faculty, administrators and classified/confidential staff who are interested in seeking leadership positions in the future or honing their leadership skills for the positions they currently hold. Part-time faculty, administrators, and classified/confidential staff who have been continuously employed at the College for a minimum of two years are also welcome to apply.

Schedule 

Sessions will take place during fall and spring Professional Development Weeks and once a month during the fall and spring semesters on Friday afternoons from 12:15 to 4:30 p.m. Certificates of completion will be awarded  in the spring.

How to apply

Applications with detailed instructions for completion are available in March for the academic year beginning in the fall. The deadline for submitting applications to the Division of Strategic Initiatives is mid-May
