After more than a year of virtual events, we were thrilled to once again host a number of on-campus events during the fall 2021 semester. From remembering 9/11 to honoring our veterans on Veterans Day, to the pinning ceremony for our Diagnostic Imaging graduates, the reopening of Grady's Garden and the Thanksgiving Grab-and-Go lunch giveaway and more, we welcomed the opportunity to once again come together as a community in person. On December 13, Dr. Generals hosted many of our employees at the new Library and Learning Commons (LLC) for a Holiday Campfire, a pre-holiday celebration honoring years of service to the College. Employees with a milestone of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 years of service were invited to enjoy an afternoon of seasonal fun on the new LLC patio as part of their recognition for their years of commitment to the College and our students. In addition, adjunct faculty who have achieved 64 seniority units were also acknowledged.
On Tuesday, Sept. 7, Senator Casey joined Dr. Generals and members of the College community to tour the Career and Advanced Technology Center (CATC), opening in 2022. The CATC will bring career training and community building to the forefront of our neighborhoods through state-of-the-art facilities, support for local entrepreneurship, and hands-on learning experiences for fields that are in demand.
Community College of Philadelphia hosted a socially distanced, in-person pinning ceremony to celebrate the 34 students who have successfully completed the College’s Post-Baccalaureate Accelerated Associate Degree in Nursing program. These students represent the second cohort of the program. The ceremony was held on Thursday, Aug. 26 on Main Campus. Congratulations, graduates!
Catto Scholars starting in Fall 2021 joined Catto Scholars who started their journeys in Spring 2021 for the Catto Scholarship Family Reunion. The gathering, held outside on Aug. 5 at the Main Campus Winnet Student Life Courtyard, included faculty and staff who were on hand to share student support and campus life information, as well as swag, games, giveaways and live music by Spring Garden Records artist, DJ June Rodriguez. Mayor Kenney and Dr. Generals welcomed scholars to the event.
Though we wished we could have celebrated Commencement with our 2020 and 2021 graduates in person this year, graduates did have the chance to walk across the stage in their caps and gowns and capture that perfect photo opportunity with their diplomas. A small number of friends and family were there to celebrate the moment with each graduate.
The College honored 112 Nursing graduates in a virtual pinning ceremony and drive-through celebration on May 6. Graduates had an opportunity to celebrate with the Nursing faculty and pick up their Nursing pins and other College memorabilia.
