Respiratory Care Technology

The Respiratory Care Technology Program at the Community College of Philadelphia is a comprehensive, CoARC-accredited associate degree program designed to prepare students for a dynamic career as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Spanning 22 months, the program combines rigorous classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory training, and diverse clinical rotations in major healthcare facilities throughout the region.
Students learn to assess, treat, and manage patients with cardiopulmonary disorders in a variety of settings including emergency rooms, intensive care units, neonatal and pediatric units, and outpatient clinics. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, evidence-based practice, and interdisciplinary collaboration, with integration of real-life scenarios and case studies.
Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for national credentialing exams through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and apply for licensure in Pennsylvania and other states. The program also offers transfer opportunities for those seeking to advance their education through bachelor’s degree programs.
Graduates are equipped with the technical skills, clinical competence, and professional values needed to excel as essential members of the healthcare team.
