Registration Waitlisting Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Registration waitlist?
A registration waitlist is an electronic list of students who are waiting to register for a closed/filled course. Students may sign up for this when they attempt to register for a section that has reached its capacity. The first student on the Registration Waitlist is notified via email when a space becomes available. This student then has a limited timeframe (mentioned in the email they receive) to register for the section. If the student does not register for the section within the timeframe given, he/she will be dropped from the registration waitlist for that section and the next student on the list will be notified.
How can a student get on the waitlist?
Students can put themselves on the waitlist if the class is full and waitlisting is available for that class and section.  This is done the same way as registering for a class through MyCCP.  Student-Enrollment Services – ‘Search for Courses/Register Online’
Is Saturday and Sunday included in the 24 hours to register online for my waitlisted seat?
Weekends are treated the same as weekdays which means Saturday and Sunday will also have the 24 hour deadline to register.
Is waitlisting multiple sections of a course allowed?
Yes, students can get on multiple sections but will be only allowed to register for one section per course.
Is there a limit to the number of waitlists a student can be on?
Students can place themselves on multiple waitlists, as long as they are for different classes.  The maximum number of units a student can enroll in will take into account the waitlisted units along with their registered units.
When does waitlist end?
Waitlist usually ends a week before the term starts.
Do students need to meet the prerequisite for a course they wish to waitlist?
Yes.  Students must meet the prerequisite in order to add themselves to a waitlist just as they would when registering for an open class.
How will the students be notified and kept updated throughout the waitlist process?
Students will receive multiple communications to their CCP email.  First, when they put themselves on the waitlist.  Next, when a class becomes available for registration in which they have 24 hours to register.  If waitlisting has ended the student is still on a course waitlist, he/she will receive an email stating that waitlisting has ended.
Are you automatically added into courses you have waitlisted?
No. Although you are automatically notified that a seat has opened in a course you have waitlisted, you need to register for the course –within the specified timeframe.  If you do not, your seat will be offered to the next person on the list.
Are you guaranteed a seat in a class for which you have waitlisted?
No. Waitlisting DOES NOT guarantee a seat in the class. You will receive an email notification, if/when a seat opens up in the class.
How long do I have to register for the waitlisted class, once I am notified?
You have 24 hours to register for the class. If you do not register for the class within the 24 hour period, you will be removed from the waitlist, and the available seat notification will be sent to the next person on the waitlist
If I am on a waitlist, receive a notification that a seat has become available, do not register for the class within the 24 hour time frame, do I remain on the waitlist?
No. Once a seat in a waitlisted class becomes available, and you are notified, you have exactly 24 hours to register. After the 24 hours, you are dropped off the waitlist automatically.
What happens if I miss the 24 hour time limit, but still want the class?
You can add yourself back onto the waitlist, provided the waitlist maximum has not been met.
How do I drop a waitlisted course?
You can remove yourself from a waitlist, by logging into MyCCP.  Student-Enrollment Services – ‘Search for Courses/Register Online’. The courses that are waitlisted are noted, and you simply select Drop Web and Submit Changes, to remove yourself from the waitlisted course.
Do holds and registration restrictions prevent you from getting on the waitlist?
Yes both holds and registration restrictions will prevent you from getting on the waitlist.  It will also prevent you from registering for the class.
What if I am unable to web register or have a hold on my account?
Email for assistance. However, be mindful that this email may not be answered on the weekends.
