Documentary Screening of "Command Center to Bring Women Home"

Documentary Screening of "Command Center to Bring Women Home"

Thursday, March 26, 2026 - 2:40pm to 4:10pm

Through a collaborative writing process with filmmakers, three women bring to life “The Command Center to Bring Women Home,” an imagined space run by formerly incarcerated women for those with nowhere else to turn but to each other, a place where mothers can reunite and heal with their children, and women are able to hold and comfort one another. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the three formerly incarcerated women featured in the film, and a poetry workshop facilitated by Trapeta B. Mason.

All students are encouraged to attend and engage in this important conversation, particularly as it connects to areas such as criminal justice, restorative justice, behavioral and mental health, social services, and community advocacy.

Light refreshments will be provided and the Counseling staff will be present to support any students in need. There will also be tables set up to circulate information about campus resources and community organizations whose work touches on incarceration.

Film Screening: The Travels of Ibn Jubayr with Special Performance by Maurice Louca.  Directed by Alaa Eddine Aljem.
Acclaimed experimental composer Maurice Louca will perform the original atmospheric score live, and guests are invited to stay for a post-screening discussion.
A visually striking short film that reimagines the 12th-century pilgrimage of one of history’s greatest explorers. Inspired by his vivid chronicle of a journey to Mecca (1183 - 1185) - often considered the world’s first travel blog - the film blends inclusive wit with richly textured imagery to illuminate the political, social, and cultural landscapes of the medieval Islamic world and their echoes today.
The Travels of Ibn Jubayr has been supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage.
