Denim Day

Denim Day

Wednesday, April 30, 2025 - 11:00am to 3:00pm

Denim Day: A day to stand in solidarity with sexual assault survivors andvictims. Celebrated every year on the last Wednesday of April, Denim Daystarted as a campaign against sexual assault apologists. In the summer of1998 in Italy, an 18-year-old girl was raped by her 45-year-old drivinginstructor. One year later, the perpetrator was released after the courtoverturned his sentence. He appealed that the girl had had ‘consensual’sex with him because she was wearing tight jeans that could have only beentaken off with her help. The next day, Italian women showed up in jeans totheir workplaces as a way to protest the absurdity of the overturnedsentence. https://denimday.org/WOAR will table and students/staff who wear denim, meet with WOAR and/or signthe "It's On Us" campus pledge against sexual violence will be invited toparticipate in a selfie-station to fill an exhibit case with photos ofstudents committed to the cause. We would also like to promote the It's On Us pledge and the It's On Us PeerLeadership Program at the College:https://www.pa.gov/agencies/education/resources/student/its-on-us-pa/it-...(pledge)We have scholarships available for students interested in building skills anddoing campus organizing around domestic violence and sexual assaultprevention and awareness on campus. These are available on a rolling basisthrough next December. Interested students can email GSRC@ccp.edu. We have afew students who have been actively working as peer leaders with this programwho would be excellent to interview in a social media reel to raise awarenessabout the month, or to be in a blog post, if you are looking for content.
