What is a Scholarship-A-Thon?
A Scholarship-a-thon is an all day super charged event with support services to assist students in completing each aspect of the scholarship process. Students will also become knowledgeable about little known, under utilized and often overlooked money and resources available at the College.
Why should every student attend?
All students should attend because the Scholarship-A-Thon will give students the opportunity to engage with staff in real time, to complete each aspect of the scholarship process and learn about other resources available to them!
Awareness and Opportunities
Representatives from Scholarship and Grant Managers, Single Stop, Financial Aid, Phi Theta Kappa, Office of Student Engagement, Institutional Advancement, Regional Centers, Neighborhood, and Community Donors.
Purpose: Showcase the available resources - on-site!
Selecting the Right Scholarship and Online Assistance to Apply
Support will be invited from IT Services, Scholarship and Grant Managers, Single Stop, Phi Theta Kappa, Office of Student Engagement, Institutional Advancement, Regional Centers, Neighborhood and Community Donors.
Purpose: Assist students in selecting scholarships and completing applications - on-site!
Writing a Winning Scholarship Essay
Assistance will be provided by invited English and Creative Writing tutors, as well as Phi Theta Kappa members.
Purpose: Help students craft compelling scholarship essays - on-site!
Choosing and Requesting References, Updating Resumes, and LinkedIn Profiles
Guidance from invited Career Connection representatives.
Purpose: Provide expertise on reference selection, resume updates, and LinkedIn profile optimization - on-site!
Scholarship Student Mentor Match
Students will be matched with invited Phi Theta Kappa member Scholarship mentors.
Purpose: Offer mentorship and guidance throughout the scholarship application journey - on-site!
Scholarship-a-Thon Assessment and Follow-up
Focus on monitoring scholarship application, attainment, graduation, and career placement success.
Purpose: Evaluate and support students’ progress post-event.
There will be lots of giveaways, food and most importantly - students will have access to the new QR Code and be able to - Just Click it!
