Tuesday, July 29 | Game Audio with Prof. James Sauppe | M2-08 | This demonstration will prepare students to connect the dots between standard Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) functionality with linear music creation and Middleware functionality as it pertains to nonlinear music in video game audio and sound design. Wednesday, July 30 | Studio Fixes and Maintenance on a Budget: Soldering Workshop with David Klyman | M2-08 | Have you ever wondered how to fix a guitar cable or solder a custom insert y-cable? Did you ever wonder what running your own recording studio would be like? In this session, Dave Klyman, our department’s tech and production specialist, will walk you through the day-to-day goings on of a recording studio.  You will also learn how to solder your own ¼” instrument cable.Thursday, July 31 | Modulation: Historical & Practical Perspectives with Prof. Robert Ross | M2-09D | This Summer Music Institute workshop will cover different means of musical modulation grouped by historical conventions: Baroque era, circle of fifths & secondary dominant chords, Classic era, pivot chords, Romantic era, common tone and key shifts by thirds as well as fully diminished 7th chords as “stargates”.Tuesday, August 5 | Mixing, Mastering and Creating an Audio Technology Startup Company with special guest, Ryan Schwabe | M2-08 | Ryan Schwabe is a 2x Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum mixing and mastering engineer based in Philadelphia. In this workshop, Ryan will discuss his career as a mixing and mastering engineer as well as founding the startup audio technology company, Schwabe Digital, creators of the popular Gold Clip and Orange Clip plugins.Wednesday, August 6 | Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation with Prof. Evan Graver | M2 -08 | In this session, we will approach the concept of Improvisation through three different facets, Rhythm, Melody, and Harmony. Students are encouraged to bring their instruments so that the group has the opportunity to analyze each other’s work as part of the session.Thursday, August 7 | The Vocal Instrument and the Significance of One Performer, Multiple Genres with Dr. Anne Sciolla, Prof. Mary Ellen Desmond and special guests, Dr. Terry Klinefelter and Jacob Lapp | M2-09D | This multi-genre and diverse session will cover vocal performance, maintenance and health, piano accompaniment and collaboration in various genres of music as well as music arranging and ensemble instruction.
