Seminar Description

Equity gaps in academic achievement exist among students of color and ESL students, particularly in the College’s top 25 Gateway courses. Equitable teaching practices have been shown to mitigate equity gaps in learning and retention. During the fall 2021 semester, three Academic programs: Allied Health, English, and Foundational Math, piloted the Academic Equity Coach initiative. Academic Equity Coaches from each department were offered equity training and charged to design data-driven intervention strategies for faculty to implement during the spring 2022 semester that address identified equity gaps within their respective departments. The Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning and Title III Grant complemented the Academic Equity Coach initiative with faculty professional learning opportunities. This presentation will highlight the efforts undertaken in the three departments and the collaborative efforts of all areas.
