- Learn about the cultures our students come from and how they contribute to the CCP culture
- Learn about the language backgrounds of our students and how their languages contribute to classroom discourse
- Learn about the ways in which we can further accommodate our multi-cultural and multilingual students at the College in general and in our classrooms specifically
Seminar Description
This session will give an overview of ESL student stats regarding language and cultural backgrounds, and how these play a role in the College culture at large. This begins with recognizing the different “categories” of our ESL students; contrary to popular assumptions, all ESL students are not the same. Exploring how ESL students are not the same will make way for discussions around perceptions and experiences of both the students and the staff/faculty. Understanding the nuances of ELL experiences strengthens a teacher’s/admin's standing in the classroom as it creates a space to connect with students on a deeper level and develop better rapport.
