Participants will:

  • Identify sounds that are unique to the English language
  • Identify the pronunciation quirks of the English language that pose such a challenge to English Language Learners
  • Have a new level of awareness of their speech production

Seminar Description

This session will introduce participants to the complexities involved in listening to and understanding English. Starting with an introduction to those sounds which are unique to English, followed by an explanation of blending, elision, intrusion, assimilation and geminates, the very quirks of language – and specifically of the English language – that pose such a challenge to listening and comprehension for English Language Learners, this session will equip participants with a heightened sense of awareness when it comes to interacting with individuals whose first language may not be English.
