That’s the human in you: Restorative Practices for Real Connections Session 2 - Diversity Certificate Program

Presenters: Elisa King, Mary Conway, and Sarah Byker James.
Description: Increasingly common in the United States criminal justice and school systems, restorative practices are also popping up in our workplaces. From their portrayal in TV dramas like Orange is the New Black, these practices may feel new or faddish, but restorative practices have a long history in indigenous communities around the world. In the workplace specifically, we can use restorative practices to build community as well as manage conflict and address harm across the college. In this peer-led series, we will use guided conversation circles to strengthen connections with colleagues and promote personal and organizational change with an emphasis on equity and inclusion.

To attend, you simply need to be open to sharing your experiences, listening to the experiences of your colleagues, and learning from each other. Our work in this series will be hands-on and focused on the topics and conversations in the room, but restorative practices can be applied in a range of settings. Through participating, you will pick up strategies you can apply in formal and informal conversations with colleagues and students as well as with family and community members.

Please note, in order to attend and get diversity certificate credit for this session you must have attended at least one of the introductory “That’s the human in you: Restorative Practices for Real Connections” sessions held in Fall 2019 or on January 23rd.
