Drop the Mic Registration

Thank you for your interest in being a contestant on Drop the Mic, CCP’s spoken word competition!  We are an award-winning and six-time Emmy-nominated program, and we are proud to spotlight all of our talented poets, rappers, and playwrights! The show will be filmed and televised on CCPTV in Spring 2025. Here is some important info about contestant eligibility, competition rules, and TV show requirements.

Before you sign up for an audition, please read the following information carefully.

Eligibility

  • Only CCP students, alumni, faculty and staff are eligible to be contestants. 
  • Accepted forms of “spoken word” include poetry, rap and monologue. Performances must be performed a cappella, and no props may be used. All work must be the contestants’ own original creation. 

Audition Shows

All contestants must be available for the entire time indicated on the date that they sign up to audition.

Contestant scheduling will be first come, first served. After the first 10 contestant slots are confirmed for each audition show, prospective contestants will be placed on a waitlist. If a confirmed contestant doesn’t check in by 10:30 a.m. on their audition show date, then names from the waitlist will be called until we fill all available slots.

Friday, October 11, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Northeast Regional Center, Room 124

Friday, October 18, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Career and Advanced Technology Center, Room 341 A/B

Friday, October 25, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Main Campus, Black Box Theater, Room BG-21

Final Showcase

The top four winners of each audition show will perform in the final showcase on Friday, Nov. 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Main Campus in the Great Hall, Room S2-19.

Competition Rules

All contestants must abide by the following rules. Failure to do so may result in penalization of scores.

  1. Profanity is allowed, though it should add to the artistic content or performance
  2. There will be two rounds each show, so participants should be prepared to perform at least two pieces
  3. The top four winners from each audition show will compete in the final showcase. The top three winners of the final showcase will receive prizes. All contestants will receive CCP swag.
  4. Performance Rules
  • Performance pieces cannot be longer than 3 minutes and 15 seconds
  • No erotic poetry (or overly sexually explicit)
  • No music tracks/instrumentals
  • Must be contestants’ original work
  • No Props

TV Show Requirements

  • All contestants will be required to sign a release form
  • If you invite family and friends to be in the audience for the taping, they will also have to sign release forms
  • Students cannot wear white or green clothing or clothing with logos or trademarked/copyrighted graphics
