Open Educational Resources (OER) & EDI (Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion) - Diversity Certificate Program

Presenter: Jalyn Warren, Carol Seufert
Description: Are voices missing from your course? Wondering how they can be included? Traditional textbooks are almost always created by academics educated in a Western tradition. Students come from diverse backgrounds, so there is a disconnect. Open licensing makes it possible to modify educational resources to be culturally relevant and accessible. Including students in the creation of OER can certainly help create inclusive materials.

In this session, we will continue our PD week discussion (you are not required to have attended the session) on how others have answered this question and discover how participants can leverage OER to include the voices that have previously been missing. Ideas such as including students in the creation of OER will also be discussed.

Join us as we also discuss ways in which to leverage open materials and pedagogy to create an inclusive learning environment.
