White Privilege Session 4: Liberatory consciousness and anti-racist identity - Diversity Certificate Program

Location: M1-17 (FCTL)
Presenters: Rainah Chambliss, Mary Hoeffel, and Elisa McCool
Description: For white people, what does a commitment to an ongoing process of becoming anti-racist look like? What steps can white people take to develop and strengthen their commitment to anti-racism? What pitfalls can arise along the way, and how can these pitfalls be confronted? How can white people doing anti-racist work remain accountable to people of color? Our learning community will focus on ways that white faculty and staff answer these questions as well as develop strategies for recognizing and managing the difficult emotions that sometimes arise when discussing race in order to become better listeners, educators and anti-racist allies, and to more effectively support diversity initiatives on campus. All faculty, staff and administrators at the college are welcome.
